To undertake verification of their missile’s performance, this customer needed support across a broad range of competencies, including test management, jamming as well as in-house drone systems.

The solution: Aerial targets at Vidsel Test Range

When it comes to performing A-A live firings and live jamming, the options in Europe are limited. With an easily accessible location in Sweden, the largest overland test facility in Europe with all of the required target systems and test systems and support from experienced staff, Vidsel Test Range was the obvious choice.

The customer’s project included different firing scenarios to evaluate the performance of the missile and had an extremely short timeline. To deliver on these requirements, an in-house solution for the jamming functionality was needed. Fortunately, as FMV T&E have the design authority for the aerial drone system and high competence within jamming, a solution was possible.

The result: A-A weapon system verified

The detailed considerations involved with the firing and jamming of A-A missiles towards drone targets were all directed by our test leader. Although complex, these are standard procedures for our experienced specialists at FMV T&E. At the same time, we were able to provide our advanced range equipment to track and document separation, flight and targets hit, all whilst collecting the valuable required data.

We designed and built the appropriate airborne jamming system within a very short timeframe, integrating a jammer on our existing aerial target drone. This enabled us to meet the needs of their project, and deliver all the documented results, data and knowledge needed. As a result, our customer was able to verify the performance of their missile in a realistic jammed environment.
